Jean Bowker, the Windblown Printmaker Jean has worked as a professional artist since 1984, having studied art both at school and as a mature student, completed a foundation course in art and design and then studied Art History at Winchester. She fulfilled many commissions in water-colour and exhibited regularly at regional art exhibitions. She is equally at home with water-colour, oils or etching, although aquatint etching is nowadays her forté. At college Jean studied Celtic art and design which she used in a series of etchings and a book of abstract collages on her impressions of Western Ireland. Jean now lives close to the sea in the rugged West Highlands of Scotland, which has given her a wealth of new material, both natural and cultural. to feed the imagination. In recent years, the medium of aquatint etching has given a new perspective to her work of a more abstract and surreal nature, combining both the Celtic influence and the natural history and geology of this remote area. Scuba diving in Britain and abroad has led to a series of etchings entitled 'Sea Visions', and her love of natural history has produced a second series, 'Tree Spirits'. Inspired by the wonderful diversity of rocks near her home Jean's most recent series of etchings is 'Living Rocks'. Jean is also producing hand-made paper, in book and sheet form, using local materials: reeds, grasses and ferns. Paper inquiries to: contact@worldprintmakers.com. |
