New? ESTAMPA, the Salón Internacional del Grabado y las Ediciones de Arte Contemporáneo, headed up by Isabel Pérez Morgade, celebrates its tenth anniversary this year and brings together in its customary Casa del Campo venue some of Europe's most interesting and innovative editions of serial art, presented by both Spanish and international galleries. As always, the fair's offering is oriented towards affordable art. Spanish
Artist Alexanco Creates Fair's Image This tenth edition of the fair will occupy Pavillion XI, as well as the adjoining convention space. This constitutes an increment in total area up to 11.000 square meters. Again this year a section dedicated to innovation, Tentaciones de ESTAMPA, will feature artwork created with the help of new technologies. This edition will bring its "Temptations" closer than ever to its public of art lovers, as some of the work shown will literally surround visitors to the fair's leisure areas. Each of these zones constitutes a passageway where the public will take a voyage into the interior of the works. The
Artium Museum One of the most interesting exhibits present at this edition of the fair is the Suite Gaudí de Joan Miró presented by the Fundación Joan Miró, which will also show an exhibit-homage to the Spanish printmaker, Joan Barbará. This exhibt features the artist's complete creative process, including technical aspects. Spain's Biblioteca Nacional presents two exhibitions for 2002. The first one is their collection of artists' books donated to the National Library in recent years. The second, organized in conjunction with the Museo de Guadalajara, deals with the importance of engravings in the diffusion of the work of artists in other media. This show presents original prints along with their derivative paintings done by historic Spanish painters. An exhibition organized by the Instituto Cervantes de Siria, will give the Spanish print loving public the opportunity to see the work of contemporary Syrian printmakers. In addition, the Fundación CIEC will show the inedited work of Spanish printmaker, Luis Seoane. The
Image of Madrid The commercial section of the Estampa fair is made up of the stands of more than 100 galleries, both from Spain and the rest of the world. This means the traditional participant counties such as France, Argentina, Portugal, Mexico and Austria, along with new faces from China, Nigeria and Israel.
