The HomeoStatic Portfolio

The HomeoStatic Portfolio is an extraordinary show, put together by University of South Florida professor, Bradlee Shanks, of digital prints by printmakers from all over the United States. "Homeostasis," the regulatory process which balances the parts of a system when altered by outside forces, is a prerequisite of human life.

"The idea arose from an interest in my own work of how one portrays balance and synthesis as pertaining to the forces of nature, technology and the self," says Shanks. "This seems a timely topic considering the frenetic pace of our world. Can art function as a means of reconciliation and insight? Can pictures reveal to us a means of achieving a 'stasis' of equilibrium?"

The exhibit, which was hung last year at the universities of Miami and Wisconsin/Lacrosse as well as Iowa State University and the University of Louisiana, continues its itinerary this year at Boston University and the Universities of South Florida and Minnesota/Morris. The Brooklyn Museum has shown an interest in including The HomeoStatic Portfolio in their permanent collection of prints.
