Mateu was born in Gerona the 9th of July of 1952 (Spain).
From 1969 she studied Graphic Design at the Elissava School in Barcelona.
In 1970 she started studying painting at the Escuela Superior de Sant
Jordi in Barcelona, and finished in 1975. From 1979 till 1989 she taught
painting at the Sant Jordi Fine Arts Faculty within the Central University
of Barcelona. In 1984 she received a research fellowship in Fine Arts
from the Generalitat of Catalunya.
In 1987 Assumpció obtained the grade of Doctor of Fine Arts fromthe
Central University of Barcelona. From 1989 she concentrated exclusively
on painting. That same year she was chosen to participate in the Triangle
Workshop inNew York along with artists from all the world. She was also
invited to participate as a guest on the 43rd and 44th Salon des Realités
Nouvelles at the Grand Palais of Paris, specifically within the Salon
Comparaisons ’98-2000 in Paris and was selected for the D’Ibérico
2000 Catalog of 1990. From 1972 to the present, she has exhibited individually
and collectively both in Spain and other countries.

Most recently, in April, 2005, she exhibited her work at the Pilar Riberaygua
Gallery in Andorra, and then in May at the Galeria Giart in Girona, as
well as at the Galerie Epreuve d’artiste in Beirut and the Trama
Gallery in Barcelona. Also in May, she presented a restrospective book
of her art, The View of Interior Space (La mirada del espacio
interior), which covers her career of 30 years in the world of Art.
