Turn, Turn, Turn
World Printmakers
at last has a new homepage. I'll spare you all commentary. You can judge for yourself: http://www.worldprintmakers.com. This remodeling was the upshot of your replies to our Readers' Survey, but not the only one. The others are discussed in our Readers Survey Results. We're hoping that the changes in World Printmakers will make the site more useful and easier to navegate, both for printmakers and collectors.

This month's cover story is about Alzheimer Dreams, a book of prints and poems that were were very taken with and suspect you may be, too. Barbara Milman and Victoria Sullivan have taken the bittersweet stuff of human life on this planet and transformed it into something remarkable called "art." See if you don't agree.

Interviewing the Interviewer
Our good friend, Loren Sedgebear, the secret art critic, was here this summer and took the opportunity to interview the interviewer, which gave me a pretext to air my views on printmaking and other issues. Not that I need much pretext, mind you…

ESTAMPA, Madrid's annual print fair, is coming up in November. Over the past decade it has become one of Europe's essential fine-print events, and we'll be there with a stand for Spanish Printmakers. Needless to say, if you're in the neighborhood…

Born Again Digital
Dot Krause, our favorite digital evangelist (she hates that term!) has very kindly acceded to contribute a monthly ditty on her digital techniques, brief sketches with insights into how she achieves those wonderful images of hers. "I don't have the time to get into a step-by-step treatment," says Dot, "but I'm happy to share the basic techniques with other artists." We've called it "Dot Krause on Digital."

This initiative fits in nicely with two things World Printmakers wants to achieve: more technical material and more digital coverage. Digital artists are facing a lot of resistence from traditionalist elements who know in their hearts that a computer is not a proper tool for expressing artistic creativity. The digital community deserves our support, I think, not only for that but for the wonderful images they produce.

El Maestro
I don't know how many people are as besotted with Goya as I am, but if you are you might have a look at this month's article on the Spanish maestro's life and times. The author maintains that Goya might well have been the world's first modern artist, insofar as he accurately depicted the essence of the horror which was to follow, down to our own eminently modern and increasingly horrific times.

See you next month.

Count your blessings!
