The Big News
The big news at World Printmakers this month is the publication of the first in a series of interviews with printmaking workshops round the world. This one is with Clive Barstow, coordinator of Open Bite Australia, the wildly successful workshop inaugurated just three years ago by the West Australian School of Art at Perth. Barstow's comments, full of mordant sincerity and seasoned-pro criteria, both surprised and delighted us and I suspect they may do the same for you. Best of all for us was Barstow's categorical, one-word reply to the question: "What is your principal source of printmaking information?" "Internet," he said.

What Else Is New?
What else is new in this month's World Printmakers? We're running the sixth and last chapter of Andy MacDougall's Virtual Screen Print Course, this one devoted to Prepress and Make-ready. Andy's detailed, (virtual) hands-on treatment of screen printing techniques and materials (Who would have ever guessed that a squeegee had so many nuts and bolts?!) has opened a lot of eyes among artist screen printers as to the wealth of information lurking out there in commercial workshops. Our sincere thanks to Andy MacDougall and to Parapress (http://www.parapress.com) for letting us in on their professional secrets. We'll miss them and look forward to Andy's next project, even if it's a rhythm 'n blues record.

New Permanent Sections
We've also added a few more permanent sections. Yvonne Leonard wrote asking us to post a job offer from the Savannah College of Art and Design, and it seemed that we might be able to do an ongoing service for printmakers with a permanent "Get a Job" section. So, there you have it. If anyone knows of other jobs available in printmaking, please send them along and we'll be happy to post them. Likewise for your other new section, "World Printmakers Artists Exhibit," where we will be announcing the shows, courses and other activities of our participating printmakers. We've also placed on the homepage (right beneath the signup box) links to past issues of this newsletter, in case anyone wants to follow the fits and starts of this little printmaking website project. This month we promise to dedicate some time to updating and enlarging our links section. We've already added a few new international print competitions in the "Prizes / Competitions" section.

Don't Forget to Refresh!
A parting technical note: Next time you connect to the World Printmakers site (http://www.worldprintmakers.com) don't forget to hit the "Refresh" button on your browser. Otherwise you're apt to be looking at an outdated version of the site which is stored in your browser's disk cache. (This applies to all sites you visit frequently, not just World Printmakers…) See you next month. Till then, to quote Swiss World Printmaker Georges Thiébaud, "Vive la gravure!"

See you next month.

P.S. Good grief, I nearly forgot. We're proud to announce that World Printmakers has broken another page-view record, up from 13,500 in March to more than 20,000 in April. That's a 48% increase in one month. Is it possible that we're starting to snowball? Time will tell. Meanwhile, thanks for your unflinching support!
