Prints for Peace

A University of Granada Initiative

The year 2000 has been declared "International Year of Peace Culture" by the UNESCO. In keeping with this theme, the Institute of Peace and Conflicts of the University of Granada organized an exhibition entitled "Prints for Peace" ("Estampas para la paz") with the participation of 21 local printmakers. The exhibit was held in the months of July and August in the wonderfully evocative Palacio de la Madraza, site of the 11th-century Moorish university in Granada, still in use as a university building.

The artists donated their originals, though the Institute paid all printing costs. The edition was of 102 portfolios of 21 prints, seventy five numbered 1/75 to 75/75, twenty three H/C numbered A/V-V/V for the collaborators and four nominal sets, one each for the Institute of Peace and Conflicts, the Andalusian UNESCO Center, the Royal Fine Arts Academy of Granada and the Spanish National Library.

The price of the collection is 250,000 pesetas ($1,277 US) and there are portfolios still available from Elena Diez at the University of Granada's Institute of Peace, phone 34 958 24 83 54.
