"No different from sleeping or eating..." I am a trained collaborative printer specializing in lithography, intaglio, and book arts. I am currently employed as a collaborative printer for Trillium Graphics. I received a BFA in Printmaking as well as a BA in Art Education from the University of Florida. I continued my study of printmaking through the Tamarind Institute of Lithography's Printer Training Program, and have been professionally printing, in various print shops, for the last seven years. I was born in Akron, Ohio, but was quickly moved to Englewood, Florida. Englewood was a small coastal town with nothing but fishing and lemon groves. A hurricane took care of the lemon trees and legislation took care of the fishing, so now it is just a sleepy town with quiet beaches and fresh sea-food. I grew up on the water and in the woods. After a few years of college, I took a break and moved to London, England for a change of pace and scenery. Then, I decided to finish my degree and moved back to school. I have been pursuing my love of printmaking and art ever since. My mediums of choice are painting, printmaking, performance, and book arts. My philosophy on art can be summed up by these three quotes: "The
world rarely can or will distinguish art from mere opinion." "...
but I like what is in the work- the chance to find yourself. Your own
reality- for yourself, not for others- what no other man can ever know.
They can only see the mere show, and never can tell what it really means."
"A miracle
is always a sudden transformation of nature." -and, in addition, I feel that at some point every artist comes to understand the desire that draws him or her to the point of creation as a need no different from that of sleeping or eating. Artists today are as the shaman of old, and their art as the oracles of the ancient Greek, providing riddled advice on the past, present, and future. But it would be a great oversight to believe that art in itself represents truth or absolute beauty. Art is a reflection of contemporary society in all of its past glories and atrocities. To paraphrase Paul Klee, artists are merely radio receivers and transmitters, each tuned to their own individual frequency in nature or the natural environment, and then broadcasting the input that they receive.
