At right is a sample of the matrix which Rod Stokes uses to create his embossed prints, this one for Somewhere Along Lost Highway (RS-07, above). After the print run Stokes slightly modifies the matrix, paints it, and presents it as a separate work. This process obviates the possibility of future editions being printed, while at the same time maintaining the intrinsic value of the original plate.
