Zahra BuAli
Brief Biography

•  After living in Canada, her second home for many years, changing careers and achieving her second bachelor's degree, in Fine Arts from Concordia University in1996, Zahra BuAli, born in Alhasa, Saudi Arabia 1953, returns to her native land to establish her own studio at home where she works as a painter, printmaker, sculptor and ceramist, as well as teaching art to women and children.

•  She is also an active advocate for the development and progress of art and culture in that region, lecturing on art, creativity and art history, as well as contributing articles about art to local newspapers. She is a founding member of Saudi Art Association-2007, and an active member of evaluation committees for art contests and exhibitions.

•  Zahra returns frequently to Canada where she often participates in artist-in-residence programs or in printmaking workshops. Latest were: Litho workshop at Atelier Circulaire, Montreal, Oct. 2008, and an artist-in-residence at Atelier Presse Papier, Trois Riviers, Sept. 2005.

•  Her seventh solo exhibition which was in May, 2008 at Bahrain Arts society, consisted of 59 works between paintings in oil and acrylics, prints from monotypes, etchings and mixed media, sculptures and an artist's book. In this exhibition, Zahra explores her intense inner feelings and aesthetic vision, at different moments of existence, as they relate to daily events with their overwhelming and hindering effect. She focuses her research on the human soul and its inner constant struggle to overcome externally enforced inabilities, and how to retain and nurture the creative self, its memory and subconscious.

•  Her work has been exhibited in many group exhibitions, locally and around the world; in the Middle East, Canada, Europe, and Asia. Latest of these was the 2 nd Guanlan International Print Biennial in China, May 2009.

•  She has work in several private collections in the K.S.A, the United States of America, Canada, the United Kingdom, Bahrain and the U.A.E.
