"SLX Strike," lithography

As an artist my primary medium is printmaking, with an emphasis on imaginative landscape. I primarily rely upon an intuitive process in which fragments of reality are abstracted to conform with an inner vision of a particular subject. I began over a year ago working with Adobe Photoshop as a drawing tool and have refrained from appropriating photographic or pre-existing images. My work has always relied on the use of "mark-making."

Thus the computer and the term homeostatic fit my interests. Computer graphics offers a process of mark-making unlike anything made by hand. Due to my interest in lithography I have avoided using inkjet printers to output images. To complete an image, I feel hand printing gives me a more familiar ability to change colors or add layers. The image in this portfolio shows how I use computer technology in mark-making using Photoshop and Extensis tools. This process allowed me to explore my interest in imaginative abstract landscape. The image was color separated using an Epson 3000 printer and then exposed to positive working litho plates. The only alteration made during hand-printing was to change a solid black ink to a blue gray blend roll.
