"Set Shot," like many of my works, features a tiny image of a family situated in a landscape. The figures are sheltered within the shape of a rickety house. My intent was to create an image which related to the theme in a metaphorical rather than literal way. A homeostatic system attempts to keep itself in balance or equilibrium. The family unit is acted upon by forces from without as well as within: forces of nature, time and chance. The family seems happy and intact, despite the choppy waters and the partly cloudy skies around them that could portend unforeseen difficulties. The dad coaches his son as he takes aim with his shot, though the goal is in the water behind them. Layered within the clouds is a star chart, symbolizing the guidance that might be available, if only the clouds don't obscure the information needed. |
