When visiting a zoo, I witnessed a pigeon fly into a baboon enclosure. The pigeon landed and began feeding on some discarded food. A nearby baboon was also watching the pigeon and it began to slowly move toward the bird. When the baboon was near enough, it lunged forward and grabbed the pigeon. Once the baboon had the bird in its paw, it immediately broke its wing and threw the bird down on the ground. After this action, the baboon left the area where the bird floundered helplessly on the ground. I don't know if the actions of the baboon were derived from instinct or choice. Equally, I don't know if our efforts to control our environment are any different. Maybe we just give instinct different names like computer and technology. There may be no choice in balancing technology with biology since they are likely to be the same thing. This print, "PAW" is about that. |
