Mastering Digital Printing, The Photographer's and Artist's Guide to High Quality Digital Output
This is Harald Johnson's new book, a veritable Bible of digital printing history, techniques, hardware, software, suppliers, digital print workshops, and much more, including a "gallery showcase" of the work of leading digital image makers. Book one on the digital printmaker's shelf.

The Complete Printmaker : Techniques,...
This is the standard reference work for printmakers. It makes fascinating reading at one sitting (you'll learn a lot and recall a lot of things you had forgotten!) and is invaluable when you need to look up print-related information. All the traditional print media are covered in detail. Book one on the traditional printmaker's shelf.

Chine Colle: A Printer's Handbook
Brian Shure, former master printer at Crown Point Press, presents the chine colle technique for both intaglio and lithography, with interesting side trips into printmaking literature and history, as well as his own thinking on the subject based on a distinguished career in printmaking.

Non-toxic Intaglio Printmaking
Keith Howard's
book is causing a quiet revolution in printmaking, as artists adopt his creative alternatives to nitric acid based on ferric chloride. The results are generally up to traditional standards, and on occasions actually surpass them. Fascinating reading, especially if you're concerned about your lungs.

500 Years of Graphic Art Techniques
An engaging and well illustrated historical overview of printmaking, from the times of Dürer and Rembrandt down to computer times. Complete and straightforward, it's clearly and economically written, with many detailed illustrations.
Albrecht Durer : Die Apokalypse, the...
We have not seen this book, but we would like to, having been adepts of Dürer since first seeing his Hare and his Self Portrait in the Prado Museum many years ago. For $345 you get 32 whole pages of Dürer's prints (most of which are drypoints, as he only messed with acid on a couple of prints in his entire lifetime.) It has to be something very special. If you do buy it, don't forget to write us and tell us all about it!

Anthony Van Dyck As a Printmaker
This is the catalogue of Van Dyck's 400th-birthday celebration in Antwerp, city of his birth in 1699, and it sheds much-needed light on this painter's prints. It is particularly interesting for lovers of art history, as it discusses 17th-century printmaking practices. The exhaustive illustrations include several full displays of all the drawings, states, proofs and final prints of given works. Very accessible despite being academically rigorous.
Chagall: The Lithographs
An intriguing and definitive book about Marc Chagall's encounter with lithography, the technique which permitted him to employ his most effective arm in printmaking: color. With over a thousand different lithographs the authors provide unique insider information through interviews some of the master printers who worked for the master. Not only the catalogue raisonné of Chagall's lithographs, but a formidable picture book!

Charles Bragg : The Works! a...
This book is an ideal place to discover the life and miracles of this genial artist who has garnered a loyal following among lovers of his very personal brand of art, whether in prints, painting or sculpture. Packed with personal anecdotes and insights into his sources of inspiration, as well as more than 100 illustrations.
The Complete Etchings of Rembrandt :...
This is a remarkable exercise in art documentation, both for the care and thoroughness which the authors have dedicated to the Rembrand's prints-- beautiful reproduction on excellent heavy paper--but for the fact that they have achieved it at a bargain price. The etchings which exceed the format of this formidable tome are included as inserts. A joyous homage to the master.
The Contemporary Print : From Pre-Pop to...
Author Tallman takes a critical and didatic look at printmaking on both sides of the Atlantic during one of the most ebullient periods of printmaking history. Technological advances get special attention here. Illustrations are big and beautiful.
How to Identify Prints : A Complete...
A specialist book with all the nuts and bolts of the different printmaking and dating techniques from a museum curator's point of view.
Covers printmaking from its origins to the inkjet era. Excellent illustrations, an invaluable tool in academic work.
Creative Photo Printmaking
With this complete and instructive handbook World Printmakers gives a nod to "that other" printmaking process, photography. Besides straight darkroom work (where etchers and screen printers can learn valuable lessons!) the author deals with more creative options like emulsion transfers, dye transfers and infrared photography. Reader friendly and highly instructive, there's something here for everybody whose creative impulses are properly in place.
Monotype : Mediums and Methods for...
The monotype is back and this book shows you in practical do-it-yourself fashion how to get in on the act. Ample information on monotype resources and techniques and a bit of history. Lots of lovely illustrations of the work of distinguished monotype artists. An excellent introduction to this curious stepchild of serial art.
Etching, Engraving and Other Intaglio...
Virtually a lab manual of printmaking techniques, invaluable for teachers, students and serious amateurs and professionals. Lots of well-illustrated, step-by-step procedures, master formulas and good advice. And the price is right.
Ink, Paper, Metal, Wood : Painters and...
This book is Kathan Brown's fascinating and personal account of her Crown Point Press experience. She set up her workshop in 1963 and proceeded to invite distinguished artists to come and make their first print. The results and the anecdotes reflected in this beautifully designed book are essential reading for people who love prints and are fascinated by the lives of artists.
